The four children of Police Corporal Dzulkhairi Ahmad have many fond memories of their father who showered them with love and kindness.
However, the one memory that will forever be etched in their mind will be when he prepared a meal of delicious chicken rice for the family yesterday.
That was at 2pm.
It would be the policeman's last meal with his children, Nur Khairyshyah Rina, 22, Khairunisha, 18, Nur Khairy Shazwana, 16, and Dzulkarnain, 11.
Minutes later, Dzulkhairi, 48, left for work.
As fate would dictate, he was killed when a thunderstorm uprooted a large tree in Jalan Bellfield, Kampung Attap, which fell on a police booth which he and Police Constable Mohd Sharil Hisham Hashamdi, 25, were manning here yesterday.
Mohd Sharil was killed on the spot while Dzulkhairi died on the way to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
"It was an unexpected incident and we are still reeling in shock over his death," private college student Nur Khairyshyah Rina told reporters at the Bukit Aman mosque here today.
Dzulkhairi, from Banting, Selangor, is survived by widow, Shaira Afna Nordin, 44, and their four children.
His brother-in-law, Shaiful Nordin, 42, described him as a man who was hardworking and loved to cook.
"He could cook and always invited relatives to try his cooking whenever they went to his house," he recalled.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah said the two policemen would be buried in their respective hometowns.
He said Dzulkhairi would be buried at the Kampung Kerinchi cemetery in Desa Aman here while Mohd Sharil's remains would be flown to Tambunan, Sabah.
