Chin Peng's remains not allowed into Malaysia - Najib

The Prime Minister said the former communist leader who died in Bangkok on Monday would be remembered as a terrorist who was involved in cruelty towards the people and attacks on the security forces.

As such, he stressed that the government would not be involved in the funeral of the former secretary-general of the Malayan Communist Party (PKM) whether here or in Thailand.

"We will not allow him to be buried in Malaysia because of the black history he had created. Furthermore, Chin Peng is not a citizen of Malaysia.

"He did not want to be a Malaysian, so we don't have any ties with him at all," he said at a press conference here when asked if he would consider it if Chin Peng's family sought to have his funeral in Malaysia.

"The Malaysian government believe the funeral will be done in Thailand," said Najib who was here in conjunction with the 50th Malaysia Day celebration.

Chin Peng was reported to have died in a Bangkok hospital 6.20am Monday from old age, a month before his 89th birthday.

Najib drew attention to the atrocities of the communists under Chin Peng especially during the emergency period which resulted in thousands of lives lost especially members of the security forces and thousands of others who were injured or disabled.

"The people also suffered from the destruction to property when PKM launched the war against the government and sabotaged the economy of the nation," he said.
