All parties in the country are reminded to practise self-control to prevent being infected by COVID-19.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, everyone should play a role and responsibility to ensure the safety of oneself, the family and the community.
According to him, the government was aware of the public's concern over the reopening of the business and industrial sectors in the wake of mass movements.
"In fact, many have expressed concern that the CMCO may cause the spread of COVID-19 infection.
"However, medical experts expect the COVID-19 vaccine can only be ready as early as next year. And if it takes two years to produce the vaccine, it means we will not be able to carry out the Movement Control Order (MCO) for that long," he said in a daily media conference here on Sunday.
In the meantime, Ismail Sabri asked to take an example from Taiwan who did not implement the MCO when they faced COVID-19.
However, he said, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Taiwan was well controlled and recorded a low death rate.
"This was achieved as their residents took precautions and exercised very high self-control.
"In addition to practising more than one meter of social distancing in public places, wearing masks and maintaining personal hygiene has become mandatory practices," he said.
The CMCO will start tomorrow with most of the government's economic and social activities allowed to resume to balance the need to restore the country's economy and the importance of curbing the COVID-19 outbreak.
