The police hope to wrap up soon the investigation into the shooting death of a policeman in Changlun on Aug 18, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
He said the police had found new evidence that could help identify the murderer.
"We are scrutinising the forensic report and have found evidence that can help solve the case. We have come close and I am convinced we can solve the case soon. The individual involved in the murder will not get away," he said at a press conference here.
Khalid said the police had arrested nine men so far, and added that there could be more arrests.
Sub-inspector Abu Hashim Ismail, 54, of the Bukit Aman CID, was shot to death at 10.25 pm on Aug 18 in Taman Sri Hosba. He took four of the six shots fired at him.
Earlier, Khalid, who is on a farewell tour of police contingents nationwide prior to his retirement on Sept 5, delivered a message at the Kedah Police headquarters.
