Cops told to conduct further probe over assault on bodyguards for fasting

PUTRAJAYA: Police have been directed to conduct further investigations into the alleged incident of two personal bodyguards being assaulted by their employer purportedly for fasting.
"The issue of people fasting is a big thing in the country. Muslims fast, why do non-Muslims want to say don't fast.. there's something wrong," Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin told reporters after a Round Table Discourse here today.
The Klang Magistrate's Court today issued a remand order against four individuals, including a personal bodyguard, to help in the investigation into the assault of two personal bodyguards by their employer for fasting.
Selangor Police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed, in a separate media conference, said the investigation into the alleged assault case led to the exposure of illegal gambling and money lending activities by a syndicate belonging to the employer.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said police personnel who committed crimes would be charged in court like other ordinary people under the existing law.
"If they commit a crime under the Police Act 1967, they have to undergo a certain process. For example, if found guilty, they will be demoted and so on," he said.
