KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia continues to record new COVID-19 cases above the 10,000 mark for two consecutive days, with 11,034 cases reported as of 12 noon today, compared with 10,089 cases yesterday, said Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said the latest development brought the cumulative COVID-19 cases to 2,925,254,
Dr Noor Hisham, via his official Twitter account, said that 10,976 new cases today (99.47 per cent) were in categories one and two, with 58 cases (0.53 per cent) in categories three, four and five.
He added that category one recorded 2,819 cases or 25.55 per cent; category two (8,157 cases or 73.92 per cent); category three (43 cases or 0.39 per cent); category four (11 cases or 0.1 per cent) and category five (four cases or 0.04 per cent).
According to the infographic shared, category three involves lung infections; category four involves lung infections that require oxygen, while category five is critical, with multiple organ complications and requiring ventilator support.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement that of the 11,034 new cases, 77 were imported and 10,957 were local transmissions, while 135 patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 81 requiring respiratory assistance.
He said a total of 6,036 recovery cases were reported, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries so far to 2,818,650.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 10 new clusters were recorded with 366 clusters still active so far.
He added that the country's infectivity rate (Rt) was at 1.27, with Sabah recording the highest Rt value of 1.47 as of yesterday.
