The Pakistan High Commission in Malaysia conveyed its appreciation to the Malaysian government and all its relevant agencies for the excellent cooperation and communication rendered during the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
High Commissioner Amna Baloch said the High Commission makes it their main concern to look after the fate of over 60,000 of its migrant workers here, and she had received positive feedback from those affected due to the measures taken to control the spread of the virus.
"Pakistanis in the country were given excellent (medical) treatment like any other Malaysians. As far as Pakistani migrant workers are concerned, we have no complaints per se," she told Bernama in an interview.
Baloch revealed that her office always received a positive and speedy response from all the agencies including the National Security Council, Foreign Ministry, Royal Malaysia Police, and the Immigration Department.
She was thankful that the authorities have helped her office to deal with the challenges they faced due to COVID-19 measures, including in facilitating the distribution of food packages to affected Pakistani community here.
"...because people were locked up in their houses, they lack in food (supply). Our volunteers, when they undertook the task of providing food packages, were given speedy permission to continue their work and they were allowed to travel even to suburbs to provide assistance," she said.
Baloch said the High Commission is also thankful to the Malaysian government for providing two chartered flights in May to repatriate 331 Pakistani immigration detainees from Malaysia, just in time for them to return home for Eid.
Across Malaysia, there are still 154 Pakistani detainees in the immigration depot. All of them are free of COVID-19, she noted.
The High Commissioner also congratulates the Malaysian government for successfully dealing with and managing the COVID-19 pandemic, and highly appreciates the efforts that were taken by the government of Malaysia, particularly in the health department.
"Today, we are reaping the benefit of those measures. Life has become almost normal in Malaysia. We have resumed all our daily activities. Congratulations on that account," she said.
