KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 6,342 new COVID-19 cases were recorded Friday (April 22) with 99.34 per cent of them in categories one and two, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the total, he said 42 cases or 0.66 per cent were in categories three, four and five (more severe categories), with 13 of them not vaccinated or not fully vaccinated, while 14 had received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine but not booster dose whereas 15 had received booster dose.

"The additional new cases yesterday brought the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 4,421,443. Two new clusters were reported yesterday, bringing the total number of active clusters to 100," he said in a statement here today.

He said 234 COVID-19 cases were admitted to the hospital yesterday of which 132 cases were in categories one and two while the remaining 102 cases were in categories three, four and five.

The number of recoveries yesterday also exceeded the number of new cases when 9,111 recovered cases were reported bringing the cumulative total to 4,300,558.

The national COVID-19 infectivity rate or Rt value yesterday was 0.80, with Putrajaya registering the highest at 1.04, he added.
