KUALA TERENGGANU: The people of Terengganu have been urged to be more vigilant and strictly comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), after 42 COVID-19 positive cases involving variants of concern (VOC) were reported in state from late June to yesterday.

Terengganu Health Department director, Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong, said of the total, 33 were Delta variant (B.1.617.2) with the remaining nine being Beta variant (B.1.351) cases.

"Kemaman recorded the highest number of infections at 10 cases., followed by Kuala Terengganu (nine cases), Besut (six cases), Dungun (six cases), Hulu Terengganu (four cases), Marang (three cases), Setiu (two cases) and Kuala Nerus (two cases).

"The cases also recorded a higher infectivity rate, therefore, people should avoid going to crowded places, always wear face masks and practice good personal hygiene such as by using hand sanitisers," she said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Yesterday, Terengganu recorded an increase of 356 new positive cases, taking the total number of active cases to 8,477, while the cumulative total of infections stood at 58,981 cases.
