COVID-19: 1,009 cases, six deaths and five new clusters reported

KUALA LUMPUR:Malaysia recorded a total of 1,009 new COVID-19 cases within 24 hours, bringing the total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 36,434.
Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the total number of new cases, there were nine import cases that received infections from abroad.
“Nine cases of imports were recorded involving four citizens while the rest were non-citizens receiving infections from abroad.
"There are currently 10,503 cases with active COVID-19 infectivity," he said in a press conference on Thursday.
Sabah, the state with the highest COVID-19 transmission, recorded an increase of 564 cases followed by states in the Klang Valley with 168 cases.
Malaysia also continued to record an increase in the number of new deaths today with six cases bringing the total number of deaths to 277.
To date, a total of 78 cases are receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and out of that number, 28 cases require respiratory assistance.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, a total of 839 recovery cases were recorded today bringing a total of 25,654 cases recovered from COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health also identified five new clusters today.
