Malaysia has recorded its first single-digit COVID-19 rise when only seven cases were recorded, the lowest daily increase so far.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, this brings the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases to 8,329 in which 20 patients recovered and were discharged.
He said, this takes the number of COVID-19 infectivity cases to 1,518 and they are isolated and given treatment.
“From the seven new cases reported, two cases were imported infection while five cases were from local transmission among Malaysians,” he told the daily COVID-19 media conference here today.
He added that there were no fatalities recorded today and the cumulative death toll stays at 117 cases or 1.4 per cent of the overall cases.
He said from the five cases involving Malaysians, two were close contacts of COVID-19 positive case number 8294 in Sepang, Selangor.
“Apart from that, one involved workplace screening at the Immigration Detention Depot in Bukit Jalil, one from surgery screening at Sabah Women and Children Hospital in Likas, and one community screening case in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah,” he said.
He added that to date there were six positive cases being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) and one of them requires respiratory assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry (MOH) would continue to monitor the development of infection in the country and abroad through information acquired from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“The people will be informed of any latest development on the matter. MOH will ensure appropriate preventive measures and controls would continue to be implemented,” he said. - BERNAMA
