The Economic Action Council (EAC) meeting today agreed to take an additional step by providing a monthly aid of RM600 to workers earning a salary of not more than RM4,000, who are on unpaid leave following the spread of the COVID-19 beginning March 1, 2020.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after the EAC meeting at the Prime Minister's Office here.
Muhyiddin said the aid would benefit 33,000 workers affected by COVID-19.
“The meeting agreed to take additional steps to strengthen the stimulus packages by providing financial assistance to help workers who are on unpaid leave.
"The financial aid of RM600 per month, for a maximum of six months, is eligible for workers who were given notice to take unpaid leave as of March 1, 2020.
“This involves an allocation of RM120mil, and as many as 33,000 workers are targeted to receive this benefit,” he said.
Muhyiddin added that for the business category affected, especially in the tourism sector, the government has also decided to issue a 15 per cent discount on electricity charges from April 1 to September 30.
Meanwhile, domestic consumers will also receive a two percent discount on electricity charges for the same period.
