The national crime index has been reduced to 40 per cent within five years of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak while launching the 2014 GTP annual report and Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday night, said more efforts were need for crime prevention initiatives.
"In the Reducing Crime, National Key Result Areas (NKRA) we are grateful as the national crime index rate under the GTP has been reduced to 40 per cent within five-year period.
"What is more important is that efforts to reduce crime will continue," he said.
According to Najib, for 2014, vehicle-theft had been reduced to 20 per cent and for the first time, the crime trend showed a drop since the NKRA was introduced.
He clarified that the cooperation between the Police, local communities and government agencies would further strengthen the cooperation and ensure a peaceful environment for the people, a popular destination for tourists as well as boost the confidence of investors.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said under the Fighting Corruption NKRA, Malaysia had positioned itself better in the score on Perception Index from 44th place in 2010 to 52nd in 2014.
