DC Says: Public Transportation

The other part of the equation lies with the authorities. How many bus crashes do we need before a serious clamp down on proper safety measures that include the regimented maintenance of the bus? It’s basic. How many more lives do we need to lose?
How about a restructure of the bus routes to factor in areas of need? What about planning for monorail system as the new area is being built? And not as an afterthought? At the very least, we could avoid deaths by crashing concrete structures.
Who has been held accountable? I don’t know about you, but I do my best to avoid roads with such constructions… which is not always possible.
A large part of the accountability will lie with the authorities, not so much in the creation of laws, but the upholding of it.
But we have brilliant chaps who focus on number plates and tinted windows instead.
Here is what needs to be done:
- A complete re-look at current public transportation system. What is linked to what? Simple questions like, are the current routes being used? Is it efficient? Is it properly managed? What is the cost of replacing older and more dangerous vehicles with newer ones? Etc.
- How do we maximize the old bus transportation to co-exist with the newer monorail system?
- Allow and encourage alternative offerings like UBER, as long as they meet the law of the land.
- Town or city planning to include all these transportation systems and to be constructed together, in tandem, with the construction of the town, city or new development area.
What is pretty obvious is a lack of planning.
A good public transportation will lead to a more efficient and productive country. Do you know how much time you burn behind the wheel, in a jam, everyday? These hours are gone forever. The productive hours are also gone, forever.
Now factor this as a daily affair and multiply it to all road users… the productivity lost is stratospheric.
And let me remind you of the obvious. The jams are getting more frequent. Extrapolate this and you will probably discover greater damage this has on health and personal well-being.
The best way to implement this is to ban all forms of police outriders for “VIPs”, “VVIPs” and “VVVIPs”. No, not because we are jealous. Of course not!!! Come on!!! Really, I don’t mind being further delayed because an intimidating, flashing blue light appears in my rear mirror, and I have to pull over while a big, black, luxury car with pitch black windows flies by.
No, this is so they will know what everyone else goes through, on a daily basis. And then maybe, just maybe… things may change.
