The devolution of power as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Sept 16, is a reflection of his sincerity to give more authority to both the Sabah and Sarawak Governments.
Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said it showed that Najib wanted Sabah to play a bigger role in certain programmes and initiatives run by federal agencies.
He said it also mirrored the true meaning of Malaysia Day celebrated on Sept 16...the historic joining of Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya into the federation of Malaysia, 52 years ago.
"This is a good move and shows our equal status with our counterparts in the Peninsular. It doesn't matter if we work for the state or federal government,” he told reporters after flagging off a run, 'Sehati Sejiwa' here today.
Organised by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sabah, Masidi said the unity programme showed the strong solidarity and patriotism spirit among Sabahans with turnout from about 1,800 participants, which exceeded the 700 target.
"I hope Sabahans can become a role model to the rest of the country in national cohesion and living harmoniously in a multi-racial and religious society," he said.
