Dismantled parts of M16 rifle found on express bus

Police detained two express bus drivers and six passengers in connection with the seizure of dismantled parts of an M16 assault rifle.

The weapon was found in a bus during a road-block in Rantau Panjang last night.

Also seized were a magazine containing 22 rounds of ammunition of 5.56mm calibre and an empty magazine; two boxes containing 40 bullets of 5.55mm calibre and a telescopic lens, among others.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the six passengers, three men and three women, had boarded the bus at the Rantau Panjang town.

They were headed for Kuala Lumpur when the bus was stopped at the road-block in the Simpang Empat highway.

Jalaluddin said the drivers and the passengers were nabbed after a search of the luggage compartment led to the seizure of a bag containing the dismantled gun parts about 8.40pm.

He was speaking to reporters at the Pasir Mas police headquarters here.
