With the Malaysia-Thai border gate at Bukit Kayu Hitam now opened for 20 hours, members of enforcement agencies are reminded not to compromise on matters involving security in the area.

Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum said he feared the extended opening hour of the border gate could lead to more smuggling activities, as well as human trafficking and cross-border crime.

"The enforcement team at the border should ensure aspect on the country's security to be given top priority," he told reporters after flagging-off participants of the Kubang Pasu Friday Night Ride 2017 here last night.

The operation hour at the Malaysia -Thai border gate was extended to 20 hours, from 18 hours previously, since last Sept 3.

Mohd Johari, who is Kubang Pasu Member of Parliament, said the ministry had no plans to increase the number of enforcement personnel at the country's border-gates as the presence of the existing 4,000 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces being was sufficient.

About 600 members of cycling club in the state participated in the event which was aimed at promoting the various places of interests in the Kubang Pasu district.
