KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) founded by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was allowed to commence a judicial review to urge the Department of Registration of Societies (RoS) to register it as a political party.
Kuala Lumpur High Court Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid allowed the judicial review application.
“I stated in court that because there was no objection by the AGC regarding (the leave application),” he said.
The court then set April 15 to hear the merits of the submissions on the judicial review.
Earlier, Pejuang appealed to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin against the RoS decision to reject their registration application on Jan 6.
In December, Pejuang applied for a judicial review to compel the RoS to make a decision on the party's registration status.
However, the application was withdrawn after the RoS announced rejecting their registration application.
Pejuang was formed in August last year after Mahathir and several former leaders of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) were sacked from the party for choosing to sit with the opposition during a parliamentary session.
In the judicial review this time, Pejuang, among others, applied for an order for Hamzah to direct the RoS to finalise its registration as a political party within seven days after the court made its decision.
