PUTRAJAYA: Saying he had received intelligence reports on the 'Dubai Move', Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today described the purported movement to topple the Unity Government as a waste of time.

"We did receive intelligence reports, even as early as their flight to that place. After that, we also received intelligence reports.

"But in our opinion, that move was just a waste of time," he told a press conference after chairing a Coordination Briefing on the Latest Disaster Situation here today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president, however, did not disclose the names of those implicated in the move.

Ahmad Zahid said the government's focus is on strengthening the economy and helping the people, and anyone who harboured hopes of toppling the government should wait until the 16th general election (GE16) to form a new government.

"The priority is to develop our country, especially in terms of economic progress, providing widespread welfare to the people, rather than focusing solely on politics.

"Those wishing to change the government should wait until GE16," he said.

Last Saturday, Community Communications Department (J-Kom) deputy director-general (Community Communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop was reported to have said that the 'Dubai Move' happened during a vacation by some opposition and government leaders in the capital of the United Arab Emirates recently.
