Eight more Sulu terrorist suspects charged in court

Eight more Sulu terrorist suspects were charged in court today for waging a war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and involvement with terrorism activity.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the suspects were charged under Section 121 and 130 of Penal Code which was read together with the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

“With the latest arrest , the total people that have been charged in court are 16 and they will be brought to the High Court for further trial,” said Hamza.

In the same development, the leader of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Al-Ehsan, Datuk Seri Muhammad Ridzwan Sulaiman who is wanted by police to facilitate the investigation regarding the Lahad Datu intrusion yesterday, had surrendered himself at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters this morning.

“He arrived at 11.05am and we will investigate him under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012. Under that law, we can detain him for 29 days to help us with the investigation,” he said.

As of today, a total of 127 Sulu terrorists and individuals have been arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 while 327 others are still under detention for other offences.

Meanwhile, three out of four temporary shelters in Felda Sahabat have been closed as the affected residents have returned to their respective villages.

“Only Embara Budi temporary shelter is still open because some of the affected residents have no place to go as their houses were destroyed during the intrusion crisis,” said Hamza.
