Elements of corruption in uncontrolled bauxite mining in Pahang - MACC

In a statement today, MACC said it took the matter seriously and would not hesitate to take action under the MACC Act 2009 against those involved in corruption and misuse of power.

The elements of corruption were detected based on complaints received by the commission relating to the environmental pollution issues due to the uncontrolled bauxite mining activities in the state, it said.

"Based on the complaints, MACC found that elements of corruption exist, which were committed by certain parties involved in the production of bauxite," it said.

The uncontrolled bauxite mining in Kuantan reported since last year has caused severe environmental pollution in the area.

On Dec 29, the water of Balok river and some beaches in Kuantan, including Batu Hitam beach, had turned red due to bauxite mining activities.
