Family laments yet to receive report on cause of Nuriey Nadhirah's death

The family of Nuriey Nadhirah Roslan, seven, a Year One pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Dato' Hashim 1, Pengkalan Chepa here who died from a poisonous animal bite during recess time, is upset for not receiving a complete report on her death from the medical authorities.

The victim's mother, Wan Nor Izatul Azwana Mohamed, 28, said the demise of her eldest daughter had entered its 50th day and yet they did not know the actual cause of her death.

"Some said Nuriey Nadhirah died from a snake bite but some said she died from a centipede bite. This makes us uneasy as we do not the real cause of Nuriey Nadhirah's death.

"I had contacted the hospital where a post-mortem was conducted on Nuriey Nadhirah but the officers said the results were not out yet but it is coming to almost two months," she said when met by reporters at Panji here, Tuesday.

On April 19, Nuriey Nadhirah died after being bitten by a poisonous animal on her left calf while playing in a garden in front of her class.

Wan Nor Izatul Azwana said following that, her family lodged two police reports, on April 21 and yesterday (June 6), after failing to obtain the medical report on the actual cause of her daughter's death.

She said the family would continue to lodge police reports after this if they still fail to obtain information on Nuriey Nadhirah's death.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Health director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir, when contacted, said medical specialists had yet to confirm the cause of Nuriey's death based on the samples taken from the victim's leg.

"We have not proved scientifically the type of poisonous animal, whether it is a snake or other animals.

"Nonetheless, samples have been sent to Australia to confirm scientifically the type of animal poison which caused the death of the girl," he said.
