The first group of 78 Malaysians who were evacuated from Yemen due to conflicts in the country will arrive at the KL International Airport (KLIA) today.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday said all of them would depart from Jeddah on several airlines and were expected to arrive at KLIA at different time.

"This group will be flown back to Malaysia from Jeddah. Twenty-nine of them who take the Malaysia Airlines flight MH151 will arrive at KLIA at around 11 am.

"Three on board Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL314 will arrive at 2.05 pm, 38 on board Emirates flight EK346 are expected to arrive at 3.05 pm, while eight on Qatar Airways flight QR852 are expected to arrive at 8.50 pm," the statement said.

On Sunday, Bernama reported that a total of 156 Malaysians, most of whom were students, who had been evacuated from Yemen due to conflicts in the country, were expected to depart for home starting Monday.

Meanwhile, Deputy Education Ministry P.Kamalanathan said all Malaysian students in Yemen were safe and had been evacuated to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

He said the National Security Council and the Foreign Ministry were in the midst of bringing them home.
