'Floods' in Mutiara Damansara under control
The road heading towards Mutiara Damansara which was reported to have been flooded due to a burst pipe, was brought under control by the fire department and the Selangor water supply company (Syabas).
Senior Fire officer 2 of the Damansara Utama Fire and Rescue department, Jaswant Singh, said the incident which was initially reported as a flood was in fact caused by a burst pipe which caused water to overflow.
“Its not floods. There is one main pipe on Jalan Persiaran Surian which burst and caused the water to overflow. The fire department has contacted Syabas and it was settled by Syabas,” said Jaswant.
He added no accidents were reported throughout the incident and that the situation was currently under control.
The incident had however caused panic among road users who have been sharing information and pictures on the incident on social media sites.
Meanwhile, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) in a media statement today admitted that the MRT project works caused the 900m pipe on Persiaran Surian to burst.
The incident which occured around 10.15 this morning had caused an overflow of water around Persiaran Surian, near Ikano Power Centre in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya.
According to the Assistant General Manager of Strategic Communications and Public Relations, Leong Shen-Li, Syabas was informed immediately of the incident.
“Syabas managed to solve the problem immediately and now the water is not overflowing anymore. Traffic also has improved,” he said.
