Former detainee killed in shootout with police in Kepong
A man who was previously detained under the Emergency Ordinance was killed in a shootout with the police at a roadblock in Kepong yesterday.
The 35-year-old had earlier fired thrice at a police team when asked to produce his identification document while he was in a Toyota Vios at 2.15am.
The man then alighted from the car and ran, forcing the police to return fire, hitting him on the left leg, abdomen and shoulder.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the man was sent to the Selayang Hospital but died at 2.30pm Tuesday.
"We seized a semi-automatic pistol, six masks and a piece of metal, believed to have been used in robberies, in the deceased's car.
"Our investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported missing in Bukit Mertajam, Penang," he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters here Tuesday.
