Graduates in the future will become job creators, not job seekers, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
“In other words, future graduates of institutes of higher learning will no longer depend on government or private sectors jobs but will be able to create jobs for others,” he said.
He was replying to a question from Datuk Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik) on the future of the country’s higher education system, quality of graduates, lecturers and researches by universities.
Idris also said that in future, institutes of higher learning will function as research institutions rather than just education centres.
“Mobility and lecturers exchange programme based on meritocracy will also be set up to encourage better cooperation between institutions and agencies,” he added.
Idris said several steps have been taken to turn Malaysia as an education hub like increasing the quality of overall academic programme and expertise to attract international students.
“Apart from that, the steps taken are also important to build niche areas,” he added.
Currently there are 107,838 international students who are studying at local institutions of higher learning where 27,812 of them are doing their Masters and PhD.
