IPOH: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke last night reiterated that there will be no clash between DAP candidates or Pakatan Harapan component party, Amanah, for the Changkat Jong state assembly seat during the 15th General Election (GE15) following the announcement today.
Loke said what happened was a misunderstanding because a decision was made at the 'top three' level which was attended by Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, while the announcement of candidates today was done at the Perak state level.
"We had a meeting at the 'top three' level before the PH convention recently. Therefore, we did not announce something that was not decided. It was finalised at the top level.
"There will be no clash because there is only one PH candidate in Changkat Jong, that is from DAP. There could have been a misunderstanding that can be resolved," he told reporters after the announcement of PH-DAP candidates for Perak, last night.
In the meeting, Loke announced that the party would be contesting 19 state seats, an addition of one seat compared with GE14, that is Changkat Jong, represented by Badrul Hisham Badarudin.
Yesterday morning, it was reported that Perak Amanah would be contesting in 20 state assembly seats, including Changkat Jong that would be represented by state vice president Muhaimin Sulam.
Loke said the party would be contesting eight parliamentary seats, one more than what the party had contested during the GE14, namely Gerik which will be contested by Ahmad Tarmizi Mohd Jam and all seats won in the previous election, namely Ipoh Timor, Ipoh Barat, Kampar, Batu Gajah, Teluk Intan, Beruas and Taiping.
Among the prominent names to contest in the GE15 are Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat and Kepayang state assembly seat while Perak opposition leader Aziz Bari will be contesting in Tebing Tinggi.
Perak has 59 state assembly seats and 24 Parliamentary seats.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 19 as the date for voting during the GE15 while nomination date has been set for Nov 5, while the date for early voting (postal votes) is Nov 15.
