As platforms that are partnering with more than a million gig workers in Malaysia, we stand ready to support the government through meaningful dialogue, data sharing, and pilot initiatives.
We reiterate our proposal to facilitate:
1. Feasibility and Impact Study – A comprehensive study involving direct input from gig workers and industry players to assess the practical implementation of key provisions.
2. Regulatory Sandbox – A controlled environment to test new measures, refine solutions, and ensure the Bill is practical, sustainable, fair, and mutually beneficial to both gig workers and the ecosystem.
We remain fully committed in our long-standing partnership with the government to develop a balanced regulatory framework. As a thriving industry, we are not opposed to the Gig Workers Bill however, we are dedicated to ensuring that the policies and implementation are thoroughly considered and thoughtfully crafted. We recognise that fair treatment of gig workers is crucial for the industry as their well-being and satisfaction will ultimately create a thriving and innovative ecosystem. Our long term goal is to establish safeguards that protect gig workers’ livelihoods while simultaneously encouraging the continued growth of Malaysia’s digital economy.
As the definition of work evolves, the gig economy becomes increasingly vital to a thriving digital nation. It promotes flexibility, innovation, and entrepreneurship, enabling individuals to engage in diverse work arrangements. United, we can build a future where gig workers are protected, platforms are empowered to innovate, and Malaysia remains a leader in the global gig economy.
