More than 100 graves at the Kampung Jawi-Jawi Muslim cemetery were found desecrated, believed by irresponsible quarters for rituals or deviationist teachings.
Local residents lodged a police report on the incident on Tuesday, after they failed in their attempt to trap the culprits.
A resident, Radin Noraddin, 48, said he believed the graves had been desecrated five days ago.
"I do not know the motive for them to do this. The tombstones at the graves were also removed," he told reporters here.
He hoped the relevant authorities would investigate the matter, as well as to fence up the cemetery area.
