GST registration surpasses 100,000

The number of companies that have registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has exceeded 100,000 as at yesterday.

The number now stands at 100,358, an increase of 2,226 from Monday, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department said in a statement.

It said the data showed that more companies were registering for the GST to meet the Dec 31, 2014 deadline.

The government's target is to get 140,000 companies to be registered under the new tax structure which will be implemented on April 1, 2015.
