HKL fire extinguished, services unaffected - Hospital director

The fire that broke out at the storeroom in Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has been extinguished and medical services are operating as usual, said hospital director Datuk Dr Heric Corray.

Dr Corray, in a statement today, said that the forensic branch of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) had conducted an investigation, while patients and staff were allowed to return to their respective wards at 12.48 am today once the fire completely put out.

“Once declared safe, patients were transferred back to their respective wards and the move was completed at about 2 am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by JBPM,” he said.

Dr Corray said in the 11 pm incident last night, no casualties or injuries were reported.

He said the incident was first noticed when the control room and hospital call centre were informed of the alarm triggered by the smoke detector and the JBPM was immediately alerted at 11.07 pm.

Earlier, patients in several wards were evacuated to safety, he said, adding that the fire was successfully put out by hospital staff using a fire extinguisher and water hose at about 11.20 pm before the arrival of the firefighters.
