Hotels impress king, queen with Aidilfitri cake presentation

Fifteen leading hotels put up an assortment of cakes for display in an Aidilfitri cake presentation for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, at the Banquet Hall of the Istana Negara today. Also present was the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah. One of the cakes which impressed Their Majesties was a 100kg cake, with the theme 'Kedamaian Aidilfitri' (Peacefulness of Aidilfitri), from the Putra World Trade Centre that had a replica of the Zahir Mosque in Alor Setar as the topping. The base of the cake was decorated with glittering LED lights and it emitted the Aidilfitri 'takbir' prayer. The cake presentation is an annual event in conjunction with Aidilfitri. The other participating hotels were the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa, Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel, Palace of the Golden Horses. Holiday Villa, Mandarin Oriental, Seri Pacific Hotel, Federal Hotel International, YTL Hotels, Starwood Group, Grand Dorsett Subang, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa and Kuala Lumpur Hilton. Tuanku Abdul Halim and Tuanku Hajah Haminah spent about 30 minutes to look at the cakes presented by the hotel representatives.
