If not guilty, why fear to come back, IGP asks Jho Low

KUALA LUMPUR:Businessman in the hunt Jho Low should not be afraid to return to Malaysia if he feels that he is innocent in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said: "If he is innocent, why is he afraid to go back to his hometown?"

He said this when contacted by Astro AWANI, commenting on Jho Low's statement, or real name Low Taek Jho, that he only borrowed 1MDB money and was willing to return it as long as he was not charged.

Abdul Hamid said the decision not to prosecute Jho Low was not under his jurisdiction.

He said Jho Low should discuss with the Attorney General's Chambers if he really feels that he is innocent.

"He needs to submit his request to the Attorney General."

Earlier today, Jho Low via a documentary broadcasted by Al Jazeera stated that he borrowed billions of dollars from 1MDB for himself.

"I believe I did not do anything wrong," he said through recording of a telephone conversation obtained exclusively by the broadcasting station.

Jho Low said the money was spent, among others, to buy luxury properties around the world, artwork, private jets, large yachts and expensive liquor.

The one-hour documentary entitled 'Jho Low - Hunt for a Fugitive' started with a phone call between Jho Low and the Malaysian government between May to November 2018.
