The food culture of Malaysia is becoming increasingly famous across the world with this capital becoming one of the food havens of the world.
Federal Territory Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the city had some of the world's best cuisines and restaurants and was very famous for its mix and multi-cultural cuisines.
"And with many positive signals in the economy and good business opportunities, there are many restaurants and food outlets growing and expanding along with consumer demand.
"The evidence is that Kuala Lumpur City Hall to-date has issued about 7,000 food and beverage (F&B) licenses in KL ranging from stalls to coffee shops, casual and top notch restaurants with an increasing number run by the young generation," he said at the KL Big Kitchen Festival 2015 at Dataran Merdeka here, on Friday.
The festival was officiated by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.
"And talking about 'budget food', KL offers loads, for very little price comparatively while some coffee shops also offer street side dining by placing the tables on the pavements and create their self proclaimed style of fine dining," said Tengku Adnan.
On the festival, he said, the tagline "Bringing You the Gastronomic Experience" best described the festival as it was meant to be a gastronomic tour of KL as the 'melting pot' of South East Asia.
He, therefore, hoped to see long lasting support from all parties to promote KL and bring in the influx of tourists to show its true potential whilst being awed by the city which is the heart of Malaysia and a truly Asian city.
"Let us be proud of our food, celebrate and showcase its richness, diversity and variety to the world through this KL Big Kitchen Festival 2015," he said.
