SRI AMAN: The National Unity Ministry (KPN) targets to establish 100 more neighbourhood watch areas (KRT) nationwide this year.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said there were 8,529 KRTs nationwide, including 91 set up in 2024.

"Although new KRTs are established each year, there are still about 442 that are inactive nationwide.

"That's why I've set the key performance indicators (KPIs) for 2025, asking all State Unity Directors to take proactive steps and work with various parties to hold campaigns and reactivate the KRTs," he said at the launch of the Sri Aman KRT here today.

Aaron said that last year, 152 KRTs were transformed into progressive KRTs, enabling them to develop sustainable and progressive communities.

"This year, the target is to empower at least 300 more KRTs as Progressive KRTs, with detailed assessments that include preparing profiles, social mapping, and applications for economic projects and community gardens that can benefit the local community," he said.

He added that the Ministry of Finance had approved RM20 million for the Progressive KRT initiative this year.
