Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) does not intend to implement the elevator parking system as it not profitable, said its Public Relations officer Mohd Aznan Mohd Zain.

"We have no need for the system at the moment and have not been contacted by any company proposing it," he told the media.

Whereas, Petaling Jaya City Council Public Relations officer Zainun Zakaria told Bernama that they had such a system two years ago but halted it due to high operations cost.

"It was very expensive to maintain the elevator parking and it took up a lot of space," she said.

Selangor Public Works Department deputy director Ir. Abd Hamid Mohd Daud said the Department had no plans to use the technology for the time being.

"The construction cost is high and we also need to consider maintenance cost and other aspects," he said.
Meanwhile, IHI Transport Engineering Malaysia Sdn Bhd marketing manager said his company dealt with a Japanese technology elevator parking system.

"An elevator parking is under construction at Jalan Pudu and is expected to be completed next month," he said.

In February 2011, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said implemented a RM9.8 million Rotary Type parking lot at Jalan Batas Baru, Kuala Terengganu to overcome parking shortage and ensure safety.
