KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered a total of 22,491 new daily COVID-19 infections within the last 24 hours, taking the overall total of cases to 4,054,926.

Of the total new cases, 22,109 cases involved local infections while 382 were imported cases.

There were no new clusters reported yesterday with active clusters throughout Malaysia now at 273.

According to the data from the Ministry of Health (MOH), a total of 22,326 cases (99.27%) were from categories one and two while 165 cases (0.73%) were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

The R-naught value of COVID-19 nationwide is currently 0.90, with Selangor recording the highest reading at 1.03.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement this morning said there was a slight drop with 65 COVID-related deaths reported, compared to the 73 deaths recorded yesterday, of which 15 patients were classified as Brought-In-Dead (BID).

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has lost 34,600 people to the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, a total of 332 cases were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with 189 patients requiring respiratory assistance.

The number of recovery cases on Wednesday was 26,234.
