Malaysia, Saudi agree to organise fashion show to promote textile art - MOTAC

In a statement today, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) said the decision was achieved at a bilateral meeting between its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Saudi's Minister of Culture, Prince Badr Abdullah.

"Among the matters discussed was cultural cooperation between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia next year, especially in the field of museums," the statement read.

Nancy had represented the Malaysian government at the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development (MONDIACULT 2022) in Mexico City, Mexico, on Sept 28 to 30, during which she delivered a national statement themed 'Renewed and Strengthened Cultural Policies'.

Through the national statement, she shared the country's initiatives in developing the National Culture Policy as a guide and reference to form a cultured Malaysian society towards becoming a developed country.

"She also shared Malaysia's plan in the direction of the cultural sector through digital transformation and specific investments focused on preservation, conservation and the development of the arts, culture and creative industry," it said.

As a representative of Malaysia, who is a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2022-2026 session, Nancy also held a bilateral meeting with Guatemala's Deputy Minister of Culture, Mario Roberto Maldonado Samayoa.

Among the subjects discussed was the experience in the nomination of intangible cultural heritage under UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
