KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian consumers don't mind sharing data on their daily lives with government organisations in exchange for better digital services, according to VMware Inc's survey.

VMware's Digital Frontier 3.0 survey showed that 79 per cent of the respondents defined themselves as 'digitally curious' or 'digital explorers', with 58 per cent of them being comfortable about sharing completely accurate data about their daily lives.

The survey, which was conducted from November to December 2020 involving 1,000 consumers, found that Malaysian respondents are happy to engage digitally with financial services, retail and government organisations leading the nation's digital transformation.

VMware Malaysia country manager, Devan Parinpanayagam said businesses must transform the way they deliver digital experiences since more Malaysians are embracing digitalisation.

"This year, we are in a prime position to accelerate our growth, with technology playing a key role in powering the recovery of our economy.

"It is critical for organisations to build on a robust digital foundation to develop and deliver experiences that are not only secure, but will also delight digitally-hungry Malaysian consumers," he said in a statement today.

According to the survey, the respondents said retail, financial services and government organisations are now delivering improved digital experience compared to pre-COVID-19 times.

"In Malaysia, financial services and government organisations lead other industries when it comes to trust, with respondents stating that financial services (59 per cent) and government (42 per cent) provide them with the assurance that their personal data is well protected.

"The digital expectation from Malaysian consumers is set to continue growing, with those surveyed saying they find retail (62 per cent), financial services (56 per cent), and educational institutions (38 per cent) more exciting to engage with because of the digital services they offer," it said.
