Malaysians working in Singapore will be allowed to commute daily - Ismail Sabri

The Special Ministerial Meeting on the Implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) will allow Malaysians working in Singapore to commute on a daily basis.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Malaysian government was also prepared to make sure they undergo the COVID-19 certification test if needed by Singapore.

"Regarding Malaysians working in Singapore, the government is aware that the industrial sector in the republic has begun operations and is seeking permission for their Malaysian employees to commute.

"Following that, the special meeting has agreed to allow Malaysians to commute to work in Singapore and we are ready to make sure they undergo the COVID-19 test," he said at a press conference here on Monday.

However, Ismail Sabri said the implementation of the permit was still under discussion between the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and his counterpart in Singapore.

"After it is presented to the Special Ministerial Meeting and if finalized, then it is possible for our workers commuting from Johor Bahru to Singapore to begin their work.

"We are still waiting for the outcome of the negotiations," he said.

In a similar development, Ismail Sabri thanked two offers from the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation and two Singapore-based private companies, Temasik Group and Thompson Medical Group for donating two mobile screening labs and COVID-19 test kits.
