The government has made it mandatory for all commercial vehicles weighing 3,500kgs and above with load to have MS 828:2011 rear reflectors installed with immediate effect.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) in a statement here Tuesday, however, said that enforcement on side reflector installation for the same category of commercial vehicles has been deferred until further notice.
The need for the rear reflectors was stated under the MS 828:2011 Reflectors Installation Guidelines for Commercial Vehicles, the statement said.
Prior to this, the government had announced that it would be mandatory for the said commercial vehicles to install the side reflectors from Jan 1.
The statement said that currently only two companies had met the MS 828:2011 standard from SIRIM for the reflectors, namely Orafol Reflective Solutions (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
However, sale of the reflectors by 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd has been temporarily suspended pending reconfirmation by SIRIM, it added. -- Bernama
