SEPANG: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) seized 1,208 kg of fresh rose cuttings from Ethiopia worth RM43,210 at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Tuesday.

Selangor MAQIS acting director Zamri Hashim said in a statement today that the rose cuttings were brought into the country without complying with the import permit conditions.

He said the act of importing the flowers without complying with permit conditions was an offence under Section 15(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 or Act 728, which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six years or both, if convicted.
