Mastura's only child weeps beside her coffin

A sombre atmosphere greeted the van that brought the remains of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) stewardess, Mastura Mustafa, a victim of the flight MH17 crash, to the At-Taqwa Mosque in Kampung Paroi, here at 12.40pm Friday.

There was an endless flow of people who had come to pay their last respects to Mastura when the coffin, draped in the Jalur Gemilang, was placed in a special section of the mosque.

Her father, Mustafa Abdul Samad, 83, and her only child, Muhriz Marzaidi, 10, and several other family members were also present at the mosque.

Muhriz, who was given the opportunity to look at her mother's coffin, could not hide his sadness and sat down beside the coffin, wiping away his tears without saying a word.

Shortly after, a family member had to console the grieving child and take him outside.

After the conclusion of the Friday prayer and funeral prayer, the van later took Mastura's remains to the Paroi Muslim Cemetery, located near the Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi where she was laid to rest.

Mastura's remains were among the 20 victims of the MH17 air crash whose remains arrived from Amsterdam at the KL International Airport in Sepang at 9.54am, Friday.

Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.

Forty-three of the passengers and crew members were Malaysian nationals.
