Matthias Chang, lawyer for former Batu Kawan UMNO vice-chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Hassan, has been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) 2012.
He was detained around 2.30pm after he visited Khairuddin, who was also detained under the same Act, at the Dang Wangi police station on Thursday.
The matter was confirmed by lawyer, Mohd Akmal Afiq who was with Chang when he was arrested.
According to Akmal, Chang who is also Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's former political secretary, is being held for 24 hours to investigated under Section 124(k) and 124(l) of the Penal Code.
"At 2pm today at the Dang Wangi police station, Matthias and I met with the Datuk Khairuddin to get further instructions from him regarding the preparation of our case."
"Almost half an hour after we're done, we went out of the meeting room and Matthias was informed by ASP Muniandi that he is being detained under the SOSMA and investigated under sections 124K and 124L of the Penal Code," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI here today.
Section 124 is over offences deemed detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
Under SOSMA, Chang can be detained for 28 days without trial.
On September 28, Chang, was called in to record a statement at the Dang Wangi police station on the case against Khairuddin.
Chang turned up as a witness at the police station with his lawyer Zainol Zakaria and another counsel Ahmad Bazlan Che Kassim, to assist with police investigations.
