May 1 anti-GST rally to be held at Jalan Raja - Mat Sabu

The May 1 anti-GST rally will continue at Jalan Raja in front of Dataran Merdeka.
PAS Deputy President, Mohamad Sabu said after discussing the matter with the police, an agreement was achieved where the rally will be held at Jalan Raja and no parades will be held.
“The May 1 rally will be held at Jalan Raja, following a decision agreed upon with the Dang Wangi OCPD yesterday.
“No parade towards Jalan Raja is allowed, so the public will be at location informed to them and will walk towards the rally area,” said Mat Sabu during a press conference held at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), here on Wednesday.
They have also agreed that the rally participants will not enter into the Dataran Merdeka field as it is currently under renovation.
The participants will gather in four locations which is the National Mosque, Sogo, Dataran Maybank and KLCC
and walk towards Jalan Raja, the location of the rally.
Mohamad said that the road facing the Sultan Abdul Samad building will be closed to facilitate the rally which is scheduled to take place at 2pm on Thursday.
He added that that the anti-GST rally will use the color red as its theme color which symbolises the struggles of a labourer.
At the same press conference, PKR Vice-President, Tian Chua also guaranteed that the rally will take place according to the law.
“We hope for as many people to come and state their stand on GST and the economic policy why burdens the people.
“We also wish to thank the police who realises that their main job is to provide the facility and to help the public in executing the activity according to law and constitution,” said Tian Chua.
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) general-secretary, S. Arutchelvan said that the rally will be monitored by representatives of the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam).
He also announced that a rally organised by 95 non-governmental organisations in conjunction with Labour Day will be held at KLCC and a declaration will be read to urge for the GST to be repealed.
