The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) provides free transport service for persons with disabilities (OKU) going for treatment at hospitals and health centres located in the Klang Valley.
Its Corporate and Community Development deputy director, Shahrin Ahmad, said the council had modified a Toyota Hiace van for the purpose, which included having it equipped with a 'tail lift' to facilitate those using wheelchairs.
He said the van was able to accommodate only two passengers at a time.
Besides the van, he said, the council also provided another vehicle, a Proton Exora, for the purpose.
"This service is provided as part of our corporate social responsibility and on the realisation of the limited facility available for the OKU," he added.
Shahrin said the facility could be requested by OKU in Shah Alam going for treatment at hospitals and clinics in the city and the Klang Valley area, like the health clinics at Section 7, Section 19 and in Bukit Kuda, Klang, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM), Petaling Jaya; Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM), Cheras; Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR), Klang, and Sungai Buloh Hospital.
The service is available from Monday to Fri and from 8am to 5pm.
For reservation, which can be made a week earlier, it can be made by contacting MBSA at 03-55222735.
