McDonald's Malaysia denies channeling funds in support of oppression
NO TRUTH TO THE CLAIM: McDonald vehemently denies any funding for political campaigns, violence or oppression.
McDonald's Malaysia on Friday denied channeling revenue from sales, profits or franchise fee from its restaurants to support any form of political campaigns, violence or oppression.
"There is no truth in the claims to the contrary," a statement issued by the fast food chain from the United States of America (US) in its website, www.mcdonalds.com.my.
The statement was issued following postings in the social websites in the country claiming that the top management of the company in the US was headed by a Jew by the name of Jack Greenberg and that the company was involved in channeling of financial aid to the Zionist in Israel.
Greenberg is no longer the chief executive officer of McDonald’s Corporation in the US and he left the organisation more than 10 years ago, said McDonald Malaysia which has more than 200 outlets in the country.
"One of our core values is that we conduct business in an ethical manner and we adhere to these principles," it added.
It said that in Malaysia, the company felt proud to be part of a community that offered opportunities for local franchisees, as well as employment to more than 12,000 Malaysians and supported programmes to help the less fortunate people.
For inquiries or more information, the public can contact McDonald’s Malaysia Corporate Communication Department at 03 – 7843 3388.
The issue cropped up following the Israeli attack on Gaza since last Friday, which had so far killed at least 81 Palestinians.
