A total of 1,128 students of the public and private institutions of higher learning (IPTA and IPTS) will start their journey back to their hometowns beginning tonight.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 863 students would be sent home from the central zone to the north zone tonight while 265 students would be sent home from the north zone to the central zone tomorrow night (Tuesday, April 28).
“The process of sending the students home will involve nine participating universities and 49 buses to 17 destinations.
"When the bus from the central zone reaches the northern zone, the same bus will also pick up students from the north zone back to the central zone," Ismail Sabri said at a press conference here today.
He said when the students arrived at the drop-off point, either the police station or the district office, only a family member with a vehicle is allowed to pick up the student.
"We note that there are students who do not have a vehicle.
“So, the frontline officers in the area will send them home.
"The bus headed for the north zone tonight is expected to arrive at 9 am tomorrow," he said.
He added that the buses involved in sending home students will be sanitized 3 hours before starting the journey.
In addition, the luggage of the students will also be disinfected.
Ismail Sabri also thanked the Marrybrown Company and Gardenia for sponsoring food for the students to be sent home tonight and on Tuesday.
