Meteorological Dept issues strong winds and rough seas warning

The Meteorological Department has issued a first category warning of strong winds and rough seas for Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Sabah (Kudat and West Coast).

It said in a statement that south-westerly winds of 40 to 50 km per hour and waves of up to 3.5 metres high were expected to prevail up to Sunday.

The rough seas would be dangerous for small craft as well as recreational sea activities and sports, it added.

It also said that south-westerly winds would occur over the waters of Phuket, the northern part of the Strait of Melaka, Samui, Condore, Reef North, Layang-layang and Palawan and prevail up to Sunday.
