MH370: MAS employees share their grief
For Fleet Manager, Captain Edward Lewis, Malaysia Airlines is his extended family.
Twelve Malaysian Airlines (MAS) employees disappeared along with 227 passengers in the early hours of March 8, 2014 in a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
For the MAS family who takes pride in its excellent hospitality and distinguished safety records, the incident has left a heavy sense of grief but did not discourage employees from putting their best foot forward despite still mourning the loss of their colleagues.
Chief Stewardess Farisha Mohamed Shariff couldn't hold back her tears when she spoke of her friends on the ill-fated flight MH370.
For her, the cabin crew are almost like family members who share important occasions together when they are away from home.
She fondly recalls her last encounter with flight MH370 chief steward Andrew Nari in January.
MAS Boeing 777 fleet manager Captain Edward Lewis said that although everyone in MAS is saddened by the incident, he is proud that the pilots have shown great resolve and are focused in carrying out their duties.
"We carry grief with us because we lost our colleagues," he said.
For MAS engineering and maintenance manager Noor Azhar Abdul Halim, his utmost priority is ensuring the quality and safety of the aircraft.
"There is no compromise on maintenance, for each individual flying on the aircraft is as important as his loved ones," said Azhar, who has been with the airline for 33 years.
The missing flight MH370 was piloted by Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah and first officer Fariq Abdul Hamid.
The crew members were Patrick Francis Gomes, Andrew Nari, Goh Sock Lay, Mohd Hazrin Mohamed Hasnan, Junaidi Mohd Kassim, Tan Ser Kuin, Wan Swaid Wan Ismail, Ng Yar Chien, Foong Wai Yueng and Tan Size Hiang.
